The Certification will give you a broad understanding of the similarities and the differences between the historical discourse given by the social sciences and the historical discourse contained in the sacred texts from readings, audio visual material, active participation in forums and assistance to various virtual seminars. You will be able to distinguish the main geographical and historic places mentioned in the bible by looking at different maps. You will understand the timeline in which various biblical episodes occurred and identify dates of significant events. To visualize the origin of the different translations of the Bible in other languages from its beginnings to the present.

In this certification you will explore the different approaches and methods used by academics to study the Bible, especially the historical-literary approach in which the Holy Scriptures are studied as a compilation of texts written by different authors in different historical periods. THE OLD TESTAMENT: This course presents the Old Testament as a compilation of books selected and canonized by the Jewish majority current in the Jerusalem region (the Palestinian canon). With special emphasis on Genesis and Exodus and their relevance within the biblical context. THE NEW TESTAMENT: In this course, a detailed explanation of the “Acts of the Apostles” and the figure of “Paul of Tarsus” will be provided, in addition to analysing the “Pauline Epistles” from an academic perspective and from a historical-literary approach.

The Religious Freedom Certification program at Zion International University arises in response to a need within the interreligious sphere: to deepen, strengthen and enhance knowledge in the study of Religious Freedom worldwide. The certification aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of religious freedom from a broad perspective, learning its legal context within a historical and humanistic framework. Likewise, you will be able to recognize how historical events have contributed to define our identity as religious beings and how they have influenced our thinking and human behaviours. This in-depth understanding will allow you to appreciate the importance of religious freedom as a fundamental right and understand its influence on human development and peaceful coexistence between different religious communities.
